Why adopt an ex-racing greyhound?
- They make extremely affectionate, well behaved pets.
- They are gentle, sensitive, quiet, intelligent and eager to please.
- They do not affect most people who are allergic to other breeds of dog.
- They enjoy the company of other dogs, making a great second dog.
- Their beauty, grace and dignity are unmatched.
- You'll provide a wonderful dog with a "second chance"!
Do they have special needs?
- Greyhounds need special coats to keep them warm during our cold winters.
- A soft pillow or couch keeps these 45mph coach potatoes very happy.
Things to Consider
- Retired Racing Greyhounds are adopted as HOUSE PETS ONLY. They cannot be kept as outside pets.
- Greyhounds do not make good guard dogs.
- In order to relieve itself, a greyhound must be walked on a leash or let out in a properly fenced dog yard 4 times a day.
- Never use a tie-out or chain on a greyhound. It will either slip its collar and escape, or chase after a moving object and risk serious injury. A greyhound can quickly reach speeds of up to 40mph, and can break its neck on a tie-out or chain.
- The cost of adoption includes the cost of the veterinary bill for a complete physical examination, neutering/spaying, immunization, heartworm testing, other health related issues, transportation expenses, costs incurred while dog is being fostered, a collar, leash and muzzle.
