WHAT WE ARE ABOUT:

Greyhound Lovers of Hamilton Wentworth (GLOHW) is an organisation of people who have one common goal: To raise public awareness for the health and well-being of ex-racing greyhounds.

To achieve this, GLOHW focuses on 3 areas of work:

Public Relations

Most people know very little about these wonderful dogs, and the great need that there is to find them good loving homes. Therefore, GLOHW makes it a priority to "get out there and mingle" through Meet and Greets and special events in local pet supply stores, malls, schools, fairs, parades, media outlets, etc. This is where we invite people to see and pet ex-racing greyhounds and ask questions. If you are reading this, it is quite likely you have attended one of these events, and you know firsthand how much fun and how informative they can be!

Rescue

GLOHW has been in the past, and will be in the future, called upon by tracks to accommodate newly retired greyhounds. When racers no longer "make the grade" they are retired. This can occur at any track and at any time during the year. In the fall, when the Northern tracks in the U.S. close for the winter season, there is usually a greater number of hounds that need to be placed in adoptive homes. GLOHW, as well as other greyhound groups, tries to take in as many dogs as possible.

Remember, there are always ex-racing greyhounds needing homes.

Adoption & Fostering

GLOHW has an Adoption Committee that processes all placements of greyhounds. All adoption and fostering applicants are interviewed and given a home visit to ensure that placement of a greyhound in their home is the right choice for them and also for the dog.

Providing happiness to a greyhound by finding it a loving home, and to a family by placing a loyal and loving friend, is what GLOHW strives for. The more greyhounds we can foster and adopt, the more we can rescue!

Racing will always go on. We want the ex-racers to be appreciated for all that they are beyond the races!
